Animal print inspired part ii - leopard print tall vessel with kintsugi repair

Inspired by the leopard print, this collection was handbuilt using slab and coil techniques to bring the natural flow of the print to the pieces. Made with the intention for you to feel the textures of clay - the Earth, the exterior was left unglazed so you can feel the textures of the Earth from black, brown and tan clay bodies whenever you hold the vessel in your hand. 

This tall vessel was handbuilt using one coil on top of the other. The exterior was left unglazed and the interior was glazed in clear gloss finish to show the beautiful colors of the clay and for easy cleaning. There was a small crack at the rim and it was repaired with powdered gold dust using traditional kintsugi technique. This made the piece unique and beautiful in its own way. It can be used as a vase or just a decorative piece. 

*kintsugi means golden joinery/golden healing/golden repair. It is the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with urushi and powered gold or silver. This embraces the wabi-sabi philosophy where we accept the imperfection, impermanent and incomplete of ourselves, of others and of life itself. Like all of us, the piece becomes unique and more beautiful when we embrace the history and all the changes that we've been through to make us who we are today.
